The AI-VET – Innovating Digital Skills in Vocational Education and Training for the Future Workforce project has been successfully completed, bringing to a close a valuable collaboration between partners in Cyprus, Malta and Italy.
The project was co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme (Project No. 2024-2-MT01-KA210-VET-000276914), and explored how vocational education and training can better prepare learners and educators for the growing use of Artificial Intelligence in learning and the workplace.
Through research, engagement with stakeholders, curriculum development and pilot training, we learned that interest in AI is high, but confidence and practical knowledge do not always follow at the same pace. Learners want to understand how AI can support them in their studies and future employment, while educators need practical approaches and resources to introduce AI effectively in their teaching.
We also learned that AI skills are about much more than knowing how to use a tool. Critical thinking, understanding the limitations of AI, protecting personal information, checking AI-generated content and using technology responsibly are becoming equally important skills.
Most importantly, the project confirmed the value of keeping AI education simple, practical and inclusive. People do not need to become AI experts to benefit from these technologies, they need the confidence to experiment, the judgement to question results and the skills to use AI appropriately.
For Vernian, this is one of the most important outcomes of AI-VET, digital readiness is ultimately about people as much as technology.
We thank our project partners, educators, learners and stakeholders who contributed their time, experience and feedback throughout the project. The project has been completed, but the learning from AI-VET will continue to inform how we approach digital skills, education and workforce readiness.
