Gigup Projects

Gigup project closing event

On February 21st we hosted the closing multiplier event of the ERASMUS+ Project GIG UP in Nicosia, Cyprus.
The objective of this 2-year project, co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme, is to support and empower unemployed youth and NEET’s (Not in Education, Employment or Training), to transform their professional lives by tackling the barriers to employment and in a smooth transition to the labour market. The project used the gig economy as an activator for employability skills.
Presentations:
Emily Tsikkou PhD and Pambos Pantziaros, from our team, presented the history and evolution of the Gig economy, along with the results and impact of the Gigup project, revealing its potential.
Nicos Panayiotou, a senior lawyer at George Z. Georgiou, delivered an insightful presentation titled, “Cypriot Gig Economy: Balancing flexibility and employee protection”, offering the legal perspective, and examining the delicate balance between flexibility and employee protection in the Cypriot context, while discussing developments in the European context.
Participants actively participated and familiarised themselves with our project and the gig economy, understanding the opportunities it presents, its legal perspectives and how this new “phenomenon” is shaping not only the modern workforce but the 21st century’s society and economy.
Special gratitude to our consortium partners Technische Universität Berlin Acción Laboral Mine Vaganti NGO Acción Laboral Innovation Hive IULM University for the collaboration and dedication in delivering outstanding results.
